5-3-05 Tuesday
Drove from Deming, NM through Las Cruces and Mesilla, an old frontier town where Billy the Kid was sentenced to hang. Lots of pecan groves just outside town. Had lunch in a Mexican restuarant in El Paso, TX and then on to the Guadalupe mountains toward Carlsbad, NM. The Guadalupe National Park is one of the least visited parks, and even though the views are said to be terrific, we couldn't see a thing due to dense fog. Tonight it's slightly raining, about 48 degrees but tomorrow is supposed to be clearer, not that it'll matter since we'll be below ground in the Calsbad Caverns. We enjoyed dinner at Furr's cafeteria, walked the local Wal-Mart Supercenter and came back to our room.
