5-5-05 Cinco de Mayo (Thursday)
Off from Carlsbad, we stopped in Lincoln, NM where Billy the Kid was captured and escaped. Had lunch in a little Mexican restaurant in Tularosa and then went to see the the Three Rivers Petroglyphs, interesting rock etchings nearly 1000 years old. Then turned south toward the White Sands National Monument near Holliman Air Force Base. White Sands is an amazing place - fine white sand in huge dunes just like the beach, but without water. By 10 pm we were back in Arizona in Benson.
