Finally we got the weather we expected - high around 60 today and cloudless blue skies - just about perfect. We slept in a little later this morning but made it to the Crazy Horse memorial a little after 10. This is definitely a work in progress but it's interesting to share the vision of the native Americans and the artist's family who continue the dream.

We also went to Jewel Cave, a 133-mile long cave system just a few miles outside Custer. After decending 200+ feet via elevator we toured a half mile of the cave, decending another 300 or so feet into the cave. Interesting limestone formations and varying cavern sizes throughout.

After a quick snack lunch we drove to Sylvan Lake inside Custer State Park and walked around the lake, enjoyed the cool afternoon sunshine, and watched a few fisherman catch trout. A near idylic setting, the Sylvan Lake area would be a great place to spend a relaxing 4-5 days during the early or late summer. Many places are closed for the season now, one reason crowds are almost non-existent.

We had an early dinner at Sage Creek restaurant (excellent!) and then went back to the Crazy Horse memorial for the nighttime multimedia laser and light show.

The trip is half over and we'll need clothes for the second half as well, so we're spending the late evening doing laundry (yawn). Tomorrow we're heading south to Nebraska.
