Still cold, but crisp and clear skies this morning! Visited Mt.Moriah cemetery (aka "Boot Hill") and downtown Deadwood, then on to Mount Rushmore, home of the "Four Dudes". We spent about 3 hours here, walked around the base of the sculpted mountain and enjoyed a spagetti lunch within view of mountain. Then on to Custer State Park via Iron Mountain Road, a maze of twists and turns and one-lane tunnels.
In Custer Park we took the wildlife road and saw many bison who were apparently happy to be free-roaming again after last weekend's roundup. Exiting the park via Needles Highway took us through more twists, turns, and tunnels with spectacular afternoon views of rock spires and formations. Back to see the Dudes after dark and then grabbed a hot pizza in Keystone and then on to our hotel in Custer. It's a clear night and the Milky Way is awesome when there are no lights around.
