Well, here we are on our first vacation of 2006, and it's starting off pretty well. We woke up early (4:30 am... yawn) to make our flight to Harrisburg and arrived there at 1:30 in the afternoon. After securing our rental car (Ford Taurus) we drove northwest to Camp Hill so Jackie could see the Rite Aid corporate HQ. Then we backtracked and moved on toward Lancaster County. Along the way we stopped in Mount Joy to peruse the Wilton Armentale factory store. The factory itself was closed today but the store had some beautiful pewter items. Gus' Family Restaurant in Mount Joy provided our only real meal of the day and then we headed east through Lancaster, Paradise, and Gap, to find our cottage near Atglen. There were several horse-drawn carriages on the highway and we had to be careful to avoid rushing by them.
When we arrived we were immediately charmed by the cottage and its surroundings. The Grabers have done a wonderful job restoring and decorating this small 18th century dwelling. After unpacking the car and settling in a bit we drove back into town to pick up essentials from a grocery store and then came back for an early night. There's no TV, no Internet access, and no phone... just serenity and the sound of the babbling brook behind the cottage. Ahhh…
